    July 07, 2020 Update

Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members,

First of all, thank you for being resilient, flexible, and understanding during the challenging times we had to endure together this spring because of the COVID-19 virus.  It was not what any of us wanted, but together we all tried to make the best of the situation.

I wish I could say those times are behind us, but it is becoming clearer by the day that impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to influence our lives on many levels, including what school will look like in the fall.

Your administrative team has reviewed the guidance for safely re-opening provided by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and The Oregon Health Authority (OHA).  Guidance and directives from the state departments are changing regularly in response to new information and how the virus is impacting our state.  Please keep this in mind, as anything we plan to do could easily change as the situation and guidance changes.

As part of our planning, we surveyed staff and families to see what both groups felt would be best for students and families in Rogue River.  After surveying parents/families and staff, the overwhelming response was in support of us opening our schools in the fall as close as possible to “normal” as opposed to having an all online or a hybrid style system.  Considering the guidance from the state and the input from our surveys, we are narrowing in on a framework for what school in the fall will look like for Rogue River Students and we currently expect it to involve all students reporting to school every day as per normal, but it is important to understand that any of this can change between now and late August with further guidance or directives from ODE, OHA, or the Governor’s office.

We understand that some families may not be comfortable sending their child to school due to health concerns.  If this is the case for you or your family, please contact your school office in August, and we will make sure to provide you with a means to do school from home.

In early August we will review new guidance from the state departments and bring some staff members and parents together with the administrative team to plan what our new school year will look like.  It is during this time in early August that we will finalize details for re-opening schools and implementing necessary safety procedures to be compliant with ODE and OHA’s guidance. Please watch closely for updates and details throughout the summer, and hopefully a final plan for re-opening which should be to you by August 15th, 2020.

    Dear Community,

There is much distress, discussion, and debate around the topic of racism in our country today.  Current events are shining a bright light across our nation, exposing a problem that continues to exist.  Because of the importance of this topic in our current time, I feel it important to affirm to our community that The Rogue River School District stands against racism of any kind.

The Rogue River School District is committed to loving and respecting each and every student that walks through its doors, regardless of the color of their skin or any other perceived label,  descriptor, or identifier that may apply. We state this so that our students and our community will have no doubt as to our stance.

    Teacher Appreciation Week

In the smoothest of times, teachers display their professionalism and commitment in a myriad of ways.  They work hard, inspire, challenge, and go above and beyond to help our students. These are anything but the smoothest of times.  In these times of challenge and opportunity, great teachers do all of the above and go even further with their efforts to be flexible, committed, and relentless in their desire to help our student body.  From what I have heard, the teachers of the RRSD are doing a tremendous job.

Thank you for having the intelligence, commitment, and flexibility to learn in just a few days how to change the way you teach.  I hope your students and families appreciate you as much as I do for all that you have done to try and make this transition an opportunity to show just how committed you are to building relationships and connections with our students.

Thank you for all you do!
    Teachers are heroes!
